Staffordshire County Council has set its new budget for the year. You can read more about the performance of the Council and the spending plans for 2008 by clicking on the link at the bottom of this feature. We have however included a brief copy of some of the information included in the document.

In the last year we have:

  • increased the effi ciency of how we use our resources as shown in the recent Audit Commission inspection rating. This means that we are providing greater ‘value for money’ for our services;

  • reduced the number of referrals to vulnerable children’s service by 3% between March and September of 2006 as a result of our preventative approach;

  • increased the amount of household waste recycled by 17% and the amount of waste composted by 19%, which has helped to protect our environment;

  • reduced the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads by 10%
