I have just posted the dates of the forthcoming community surgeries to be held across the Kidsgrove area during 2005.

On the subject of residents associations these meetings can be an ideal platform to launch such groups.

As an example the meetings held at Talke Village Hall resulted in like minded residents setting up a Residents Association which is now extremely well run and sucessful. At the last meeting in February 55 residents attended,.

When campaigning on local issues it's much better to be an organised group than a single voice or a disjointed group.

If you need any help in setting up an association the community partners attending these roadshows will be happy to help.

Martin

We would very much welcome more residents form the Whitehill and Kidsgrove area attending these Roadshows, by comparison to the Butt Lane and Talke area meetings were not as well attended.

We look forward to seeing you.

I would still be keen to know if a residents association has been set up for the local area. there are so many willing people in the area that it would be great opportunity to work together to seek improvement to the community and make changes for the better.

This will in turn become a feeder for the Kidsgrove Locality group which I have recently set up and which Councillor Maxfield attends. the Locality group is not an open forum for the public but is a meeting of all agencies including ASPIRE, Highways, Maryhill High School, TESCO....... the concerns of residents are to be bought to the group in an attempt to localise services and make eachother accountable locally.

:D I like the idea of an residents association, with this issues of where does whitehill begin/end maybe perhaps there could be smaller groups with one encompassing group, the smaller groups could put forwards thier wants/needs, problems ect and an annually elected member could attend the encompassing group and put the issues/need/wants forwards.
Just a thought maybe it would work maybe it would'nt

Polly, and all...

I would happily attend any residents association meetings when I can, or at least keep in touch. We have worked closely with such groups in other areas with success. Much is about community spirit and standing up against problems together

There is much good work that is done by residents groups across the country and to have one in the Whitehill area I am sure with the calibre of people who live there a lot would get done.

I will keep an eye on this subject with great interest.

I think that the idea sounds good, but im honest enough to admit that time is an issue. I dont know if working 6 days a week I would have the time to give something like this. That said, I would support it and think it is a great idea.

Support can be in many different forms and a physical presence is not always possible or indeed necessary.

If a Residents Association does become a reality and I truly hope it does, then forums such as this would be a valuable conduit in getting real time concerns across to those that can do something about it.

As long as meeting are frequent and well publicised there would be ample opportunity to have your views aired by proxy by fellow site members who are able to get there in person.

I think we should aim to start a group by encouraging members and visitors to private message PC Smart with their contact details (e-mail will do) because if we just continue as we are then it's not likley to happen is it?
