Kidsgrove Aldi?

Aldi Store Like The One Expected in KidsgroveIt has been over a year since Aldi announced plans to open a store in Kidsgrove town centre. Many local residents believed that the new Aldi would be open before Christmas 2004, as we were told that the Council had agreed to sell its land to Aldi.

Council Conspiracy?

We have now entered 2005 and we still have no Aldi, in fact all we have is a Council which appears to be deliberately holding the Aldi sale up. There is a growing feeling that this is happening so that the ruling party can pull a rabbit from the hat and say that they have found money via this sale to keep the Council Tax down.

This would coincide with the forthcoming County Council election in May this year when it is expected that we can see a tax rise of 5-8%.

Kidsgrove Losing Out

All of this messing around over the Kidsgrove Aldi is not helping the local economy, Kidsgrove now has a piece of land (formally Phoenix Dynamics) left empty and this is not creating a very good impression of the local area.

Regeneration of Kidsgrove

Councillor Mary Maxfield has led us to believe that land owned by Staffs County Council could be used to create business units. Mary has campaigned for this are of land to be tidied up for many years now, however these plans may put in doubt the Valentine Road bridge improvement scheme.
